Answers to your most common concerns
What is SilverSTEM?
SilverSTEM is a nonprofit dedicated to bringing hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) activities to seniors. Our programs are designed to boost memory, spark curiosity, and foster joy through engaging and meaningful experiences.
Why focus on seniors and STEM?
Research shows that stimulating the brain through activities like building, experimenting, and problem-solving can slow memory decline and support cognitive health. For seniors, STEM offers not just fun, but also a sense of accomplishment, connection, and renewed energy.
Who leads SilverSTEM?
SilverSTEM was founded by Parv Chikani, a high school student inspired by his grandmother’s journey with Alzheimer’s and his volunteer work at Arbor Terrace. His passion combines science, compassion, and community service to make a real difference.
How can I get involved?
There are many ways! You can volunteer to run activities, donate to support program kits, or partner with us as a facility or sponsor. Every effort—big or small—helps bring joy to more seniors.
Where do the programs take place?
Currently, SilverSTEM works with assisted living facilities, starting with proven success at Arbor Terrace Marlton. As we grow, we plan to expand to more communities and facilities, reaching as many seniors as possible.
